Goodbye Bay Area, until Summer 2015

By the end of this past semester, I was practically begging to go home. Which is funny, because I thought I was completely ready to leave, more or less indefinitely, at the end of high school two years ago. But I've come to appreciate my hometown so much more since I've left. Gorgeous weather, yummy ethnic food, and of course, a lot of my family is in the Bay Area. When I do go home, I always revert back to being a child and the laziness takes over. I love my parents, but they spoil me. So it's probably best for my development—you know, as an adult and stuff—that I spend time away from home.

I did, however, get to indulge for a couple of weeks after sophomore year ended. I ate way too much food, slept a ridiculous amount and watched many hours of TV shows. Though I did do things like wake up at 7:30 am to drive my sister to school and learn how to semi-cook, so my break wasn't completely unproductive. I also managed to do quite a lot of touristy things during my stay at home.

Let the pictures documenting blue skies and California bliss commence below:

Top Row: My parents and I went to Sausalito, a cute little seaside town on the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Bottom Row: My mom has a garden where fetus carrots grow.

My sister Amy and I went to my cousin Kate's house for homemade pizzas.
I mostly fawned over Loki, her dog.
Amy mostly ate strawberries and tried to take stop motion pictures of a rolling avocado.

Just one more of Loki for good measure.

Dad and I went to the Alameda Point Antiques Faire.
Where I stalked a cute fluffy duck for a picture (top left picture).
Fun facts about my dad: his selfie game is strong and he's a cool kid.

Top: Yay food! Mozzarella, walnuts, spinach, balsamic vinaigrette, tomatoes, wheat bread.
Green tea ice cream is my favorite and iced green tea is pretty much essential.

Bottom: I dog sat Loki! My dad tried to put Loki on the toy car that he bought for Christmas.

Top: Sam, one my bestestseseteset friends from school, is interning at Google Mountain View this summer--I gave him a tour of my hometown and he took my dad, my brother and me on a tour at Google.
Jury's still out on whose tour was better.

Bottom: My favorite high school English teacher turned friend, Gene (it's still weird to call him by first name), invited me to watch A Raisin in the Sun at Cal Shakes with him, his wife and a teacher from my middle school. I'd forgotten how emotional and real that play is. I definitely recommend both the play and the Cal Shakes Theater.

One of my friends from Chinese school (haha, yeah that happened back in the day), Yvonne, and I had a touristy day in San Francisco. It's interesting how easy it is to avoid tourist attractions in the area you grew up. We saw City Hall with a beautiful display of Pride flags, went to the Mission for a bit of thrifting, headed to Mission Dolores Park (incredible freaking view--go if you're in the area!), and hiked up a street to Alamo Square, where they filmed that one scene in Full House.
Top: My sister graduated from middle school, which I still don't really believe. I still see her as a toddler with two fountain pigtails atop her tiny head. But here she is, giving an impromptu speech at her graduation and winning gold medals at track meets. By the way, she's 14 and taller than me. So that's cool.

Bottom: Okay. Let me just say that there is no Chinese food like Bay Area Chinese food. That being said, Kate took everyone out to dinner and I ate and ate and ate. This is what I dream about when I'm on the East Coast.

Speaking of Kate... she just got engaged to Khoi and I'm off my rocker with excitement for them. So if you're reading this--Congratulations agaaaaainnnn!! Please make Loki walk the aisle as the ring bearer or something.

Sorry this post didn't really have a central theme. It was my attempt to document my few weeks in the Bay before I leave for a year. I didn't get the chance to mention everything that I did, but this was the gist of it. It was a short and sweet time.

Next stop, New York City!

[And of course, all of this happened weeks ago--yay for late postings]

Finally... hi internet, my name is Dora.

This blog is long overdue. I keep saying that I'll start this thing so that I'd be inclined to be creative as well as have a place to document what's going on in my life. Seeing as I'll be doing a lot of traveling in this next year, now seems like a perfect time to start. But I've never been good at keeping journals, so we'll see how this goes.

And on that note... hello! Welcome to the haphazard place that is my life and my thoughts.
